This weekend in the Shenandoah Valley: October 16–18

Friday through Sunday, October 16–18, is a haunted trail, a night maze, a music festival, a reenactment, a play, and the Sunday market. Prices below come from the organizers' own pages as of October 13. It is worth checking the link the morning you go.

Key takeaway. Pick one day and use the price on the organizer's page. If two pages disagree, I list both.

Shenandoah National Park's special-events list, updated July 29, 2026, names no special event on these three days. The next fee-free entrance day on that page is October 27. If you would rather drive the ridge, here is my Skyline Drive fall color on a gas budget route. Before you go: park special events and current park conditions.

Harvest of Horror at South River Farm

The town calendar lists Harvest of Horror Trail and Corn Maze on Friday, October 16, 2026, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at South River Farm, 2310 Rivermont Drive, Front Royal, VA 22630. The town listing does not show a price.

The farm's events page says opening night was Saturday, September 26, 2026, and that the trail and corn maze run every Friday and Saturday through October 31, 2026. The town list also has Saturday, October 17, as its own entry. Check the ticket page that afternoon in case a night is cancelled.

Eventbrite, with South River Farm as the organizer, says guests under 14 need a parent or legal guardian, parking is free, and refunds are available up to one day before the event. It does not list a price either, so check the ticket page.

Follow the farm on Facebook and Instagram. Phone: (540) 551-0487. It is outdoors, and no rain date is listed. Younger kids fit the Sunday market, or Harmony Hollow, which Eventbrite lists as all ages.

Flashlight maze at Russell Ridge

Visit Winchester lists a flashlight corn maze and moonlit hayride at Russell Ridge Farm Market on October 16, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The series dates on that page are October 2, 9, 16, and 23. Cost is $8, free for age 2 and under. Bring a flashlight. Bonfires, music, cornhole, and sweet treats are on the same page.

The address is the 500 block of Hopewell Road, Clear Brook, Virginia 22624. That is the block, not an exact house number.

Follow Russell Ridge Farm Market on Facebook, and Visit Winchester on Facebook and Instagram. Same hours as the Front Royal trail. Pick one.

Clue moved to Front Royal

Selah's season page lists Clue from October 9 through October 18, 2026, at Stone Branch Center for the Arts, 114 E. Main Street, Front Royal, VA 22630.

The ticket page says box-office tickets go on sale about 30 minutes before the show, cash or card, no checks, and that prices range from $10 to $100 depending on the production, plus a processing fee. The exact Clue price is not listed. Sales are final unless Selah cancels. Showtimes are typically 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, except special events. Confirm the October 16 curtain time before you buy.

Phone: 540-260-4030. Facebook and Instagram. Selah says they are closing after this production, so this is a last chance to see them.

Saturday, October 17

Harmony Hollow Festival

Town listing: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Northern Virginia 4-H Educational and Conference Center, address line "600 4h Center Drive," Front Royal, VA 22630. Tickets $25.00, or $28.52 with fees (town listing).

Eventbrite lists the same hours, calls it all ages, says parking is free, and says no refunds. Questions go to harmonyhollowfestival@gmail.com, or see the festival website.

The two lineups do not quite match, so here are both. Both name Danny Knicely and Friends, Corrie Lynn Green, Cluster Flock, and Pete Hobbie and Friends. The town calendar adds Dakota Karper Band, Zac Quintana and The Sages, and Ed Pickett and Kenny Price. Eventbrite instead names Dakota Karper with Rachel Eddy and Em Hammond, Eddie Pickett, Kenny Price, and Backroad Revels, and it does not name Zac Quintana and The Sages.

Bring a chair. The town text says you can bring a picnic. Neither page mentions pets. No rain date. Sales on Eventbrite are final.

Cedar Creek reenactment

From the spectator information page: Saturday gates 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Confederate assault at 2:00 p.m. Event address 8340 Valley Pike, Middletown, VA 22645. Museum, free that day, 8437 Valley Pike. Phone (540) 869-2064.

Gate prices, nonrefundable: $20 adults 16 and older, $15 youth 7–15, $15 seniors, active military, veterans, first responders, and students. Age 6 and under free. Parking is free in the field next to the Thermo Fisher factory, across the pike, from 8:45 a.m., with a VDOT sign.

No pets except service animals. No modern firearms or knives. Bags can be searched. Bring a chair. Ear protection is not provided. Extra, from 10:00 a.m., limited: wagon raid $15 and candlelight tour $5 (Saturday 6:00–7:00 p.m.). Luminaries at 7:00 p.m. on Main Street. Night artillery at 7:00 p.m. They say wind, an umbrella, and layers. No rain date. It is also on Visit Winchester.

Follow Cedar Creek on Facebook and Instagram. The 7 p.m. artillery and the 7 p.m. Front Royal trail do not fit in one evening.

Psychorama, overnight, not a kids' plan

Visit Winchester lists Psycho Cinema's Psychorama at Alamo Drafthouse, 181 Kernstown Commons Boulevard, Winchester, VA 22602, from 7:00 p.m. Saturday to 6:00 a.m. Sunday. Cost $30. Overnight horror films. Not a family listing. Details on Visit Winchester and Alamo Drafthouse.

Sunday, October 18

Cedar Creek, the shorter day

Sunday gates 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Federal counterattack at 1:00 p.m. Camps close to the public at 12:30 p.m. Camps close at 3:00 p.m. Sutlers stay open after that. Same address, same prices, same rules. A Sunday ticket is one day. Saturday's ticket is not described as a two-day pass. Harmony Hollow runs until 6 p.m., which is after Saturday's 2 p.m. battle, so those two do not stack.

Farm to Market, and the Sunday run

Downtown Front Royal, Inc. says the market is every Sunday, May 2026 through October 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Main Street Gazebo, 317 E. Main Street, Front Royal, VA 22630. The town calendar lists the same Sunday at the gazebo at Main and Chester. It is the same market, so use the 317 E. Main Street address for directions.

No admission is listed. A tote at the Downtown Front Royal, Inc. table is $20. Follow them on Facebook.

FR Front Runners meet at that gazebo Sunday, 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It is free (town listing). The run and the market share the first hour.

Rain plan, and what this is not

Cedar Creek is the only one with weather advice: wind, an umbrella, layers. No rain date on the trails, the festival, or the gazebo. Indoor backup is Clue, after you confirm the curtain. Parking is in each day's section.

Not on this list: Page County Heritage Festival was October 10–11, Hazzard Run in Luray was October 3–4, Big Cheese in Winchester is October 24, a Book Cellar sale on October 16 is in Warrenton, and a youth art hour and a haunted walking tour I could not confirm with the organizers. October 16–18 are not fee-free park days. October 27 is.

More trip notes are on Foster Your Journey. Valley prints are in the shop. Next Thursday is a new Friday through Sunday.

Which day are you actually free: Friday night, Saturday afternoon, or Sunday at the gazebo?
